Story

Origins and Founding (1887)

In 1887, Varta's founder Adolf Müller launches the company Büsche & Müller in Hagen, Germany.
The name VARTA® is an acronym for Vertrieb, Aufladung, Reparatur Transportabler Akkumulatoren, which stands for Distribution, Recharging and Repair of Portable Accumulators. (2)

Early Innovations and Milestones

Varta offered the first standard-sized starter batteries that fit in every single car in 1936, making replacement quick, easy and cost-effective.
1986 saw Varta launching the world’s first totally maintenance-free LF (liquifix) starter batteries with bound electrolyte technology.
In 1995, its silver dynamic battery delivers high-performance, providing a longer service life and maintenance-free performance. (2)

Expansion and Diversification

Varta automotive batteries are now powered by Clarios, formerly Johnson Controls Power Solutions, a world leader in advanced energy storage solutions.
They work on a global scale with 16,000 employees to develop, manufacture, and distribute evolving battery technologies for every vehicle type. (1)
